Twoyearslater,attheBattleofTrafalgar,NelsondefeatedthecombinedFrenchandSanishfleets。ThiswasthegreatestnavalvictoryinBritishhistoryandlefttheBritishincontroloftheseasfortherestofthe1800s。Unfortunately,NelsonwasmortallywoundedduringTrafalgarbutlivedlongenoughtoknowthathisfeethadwonthebattle。Hislastwordswere,“ThankGodIhavedonemyduty。”
Nelsonwasamanoffearlesscourageanddevotion。Hebelievedinhiscountry,inhiscause。andinhimself。Herovedthiswithhiswordsandmoresowithhislife。Heoncesaid,“Iamoftheoinionthattheboldestmeasuresarethesafest。”Nelsonwasamangreatlyadmiredbyotherswhosaidabouthim,“Hisfrailbodyhousedagreatsirit。”
